Melanie Hill has been on our screens for years in various roles.

She only joined the cast of the hit medical drama at the start of the year,

but has already made a big impression as straight-talking Clinical Nurse Manager Siobhan MacKenzie.

Before her role in Casualty, Melanie has had many TV roles. Viewers might also recognise her from her role playing Hazel Redfern in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. She also played Cathy Matthews in ITV soap Coronation Street for seven years until 2022 and played Avril Kent in Emmerdale.

Melanie, 52, also starred in Bread as Aveline, Rita Dolan in Kay Mellor drama Playing the Field, Julie Travers in BBC One drama series The Syndicate and Maggie Budgen in the BBC One school-based drama series Waterloo Road.

Her feature film roles include Sandra in Brassed Off, the witch Ditchwater Sal in the fantasy film Stardust, and Sonya in White Girl. But what else do we know about Melanie away from her TV work?

Below we look at her real-life off-screen, from her incredibly famous ex-husband to her untraditional second wedding.

Melanie Hill’s incredibly famous ex-husband

Melanie’s first marriage was to actor Sean Bean in December 1990. They have two daughters: Lorna, 36, and Molly, 32. They had met while training at RADA. They divorced in August 1997 after 15 years together.

Melanie previously spoke to the Daily Record about their split and it was reported that Sean’s boozing and love of football finally got too much to take and they went their separate ways. She told the publication: “We are going through a divorce and it’s very painful.

“And the most important thing out of it all is the children – we don’t want them hurt. That is why neither of us has talked to the Press, despite what you might have read.

“That sort of thing is upsetting – or it can be if you let it. We just want to get through this thing as privately and with as much dignity as we can.”

She added: “I love Sean because he gave me my children and I will always love him. We had 15 years together. I deeply respect the man and I want him to be happy. He feels the same way about me and that is pretty much it.”

Melanie Hill’s second marriage

Melanie married her writer and producer husband Jim Daly at a London pub in 2017. The couple exchanged vows at the Victoria Stakes in Muswell Hill.

They first met when Jim directed the 1996 film When Saturday Comes, which featured Melanie and her then-husband Sean Bean. Speaking about her relationship with Jim in 2005, the Bread actress admitting a wedding wasn’t a high priority for her. “I don’t think I’d get married again,” she said. “I did think about having more children when we first got together, but it’s too late now.”

Melanie chose an untraditional outfit for her second wedding, wearing a leopard print coat with a pair of black trousers and white shirt that featured an intricate heart cut-out under the collar and a pair of customised Doc Martens. Her white boots featured red heart designs on the front.
