In an eye-opening interview, Emmerdale star Jay Considine,

who plays Billy Fletcher, shared insights

about the intense and dangerous fight scenes his character has been involved in. Over the past month, Billy has been engaged in high-stakes boxing matches to support his family, and upcoming episodes will showcase him participating in yet another licensed bout.

Considine admitted feeling nervous about the fight choreography, revealing, “I actually thought I was getting in the ring with a real fighter. I was quite anxious at times due to the excited audience.” He praised director Matt Hilton for creating an exhilarating atmosphere, noting that significant preparation went into ensuring the scenes felt authentic.

Before filming, Considine trained at his local gym with a personal trainer who specializes in mixed martial arts, which helped him get into the right mindset for these demanding scenes. “It was a long day but ultimately rewarding,” he added, emphasizing how intense the experience was.

As for Billy’s character arc, Considine explained that Billy is caught between his desire to provide for his family and the risks he faces in the boxing ring, particularly with concerns from his wife, Dawn. “Billy is focused on the positive aspects—the income coming in allows him to support his family. But he’s also struggling to hide the physical toll these fights are taking on him,” he revealed.

Considine expressed the growing tension for Billy, who knows that injuries from fighting are inevitable and will eventually be hard to conceal. “He can only blame ‘boxercise injuries’ for so long before Dawn starts to worry,” he said. This precarious balance between financial necessity and personal safety adds to the drama, as the profession itself poses significant risks.

Dawn isn’t the only one concerned for Billy’s well-being. Aaron Dingle and Moira Boyd also worry about his safety, especially given Aaron’s background in unlicensed boxing. Considine noted that Aaron, understanding the brutal reality of the sport, feels that Billy may be out of his depth. “Aaron’s concerns are justified, particularly with past mistakes from characters like Mack who have unintentionally encouraged Billy to push himself too far,” he explained.
