Casualty’s Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) has been dealing with a

lot in her personal life lately on the BBC medical drama.

However Melanie feels that she may have taken things a bit too far when it comes to Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) as she helps him come to terms with past abuse.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk Melanie said: “She has crossed the professional line with Cam because it’s a kind of a mothering instinct that came out in her and she’s not kept it professional.

“She’s said, ‘Look, I know a policeman, let me come with you [and we’ll do] it together [report it]. I will be with you. I will stand by you and and it’s, and it’s just that mother instinct that she’s, that she’s relying on the minute,” Melanie explains.

Cam opened up to her about the torture he suffered at the hands of Jamie Cleveland (Ryan Hawley).

“She started looking at Cam and having that realisation of what happened and what was wrong with him,” she said, citing a meeting between Jamie and Siobhan where he had reiterated he was acquitted of charges years ago.

“She’s quite an intelligent woman. She has a lot of empathy for everyone around her, and I think she basically just works it out that something has definitely gone on.

“And obviously, when [Cam] had that massive blowout with his best mate in the pub [last week] it’s now or never [for him] and he then told her, and the story is going to play out from there.”

Viewers watched last night as Cam was informed Jamie has been reported missing. Given their background Melanie says there is a real concern he is involved in the disappearance especially after he was seen telling his father the truth about what happened all those years ago and was visibly distressed.

“That just ramps it up because Jamie goes missing and there is a question if Cam has done something to him. It becomes quite like a thriller. It’s got that element of excitement to it,” she enthused.

Melanie admits some of her efforts to help Cam, which include crossing the line, are borne out of guilt. When Jamie initially returned she didn’t see the signs of his history right away and instead berated Cam for making mistakes in work, which ultimately led to him resigning – although she talked him out of it.

“It’s like I would have things with my own kids as well, and think, ‘Oh, my God, I should have done that’ then there is the worry ‘what if I mess that up or hurt them in that way?’

“I think a lot of mums have that wisdom, carry that wisdom and I know she’s not his mother, but she has kind of adopted him in that way.

“I think that’s very Siobhan. That’s why I love her so much. She would defend them [her staff] to the ends of the earth, basically.”
